Description: Tacky tree trimmings, gaudy garlands, and redneck ribbons festoon the town of Tuna, Texas as this much-loved audience favorite returns by popular demand. Home for the holidays takes on a whole different meaning in the Lone Star State's third-smallest town when the colorful denizens of Tuna compete in the annual lawn display contest. But beware the Christmas Phantom who is sabotaging the elaborate decorations. Two actors portray the entire population, and multiple costume quick-changes help to put the riotous fun in holiday dysfunction.

Description: Last spring, Dr. Hal Poe of Union University shared his collection of C.S. Lewis with the Memphis Public Library & Information Center. This winter, Dr. Poe brings Edgar Allan Poe memorabilia. Beginning January 5, the Edgar Allan Poe Exhibit will be on display in the Goodwyn Gallery of the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library. This collection of artwork and memorabilia will be a must see for fans of Poe, or for anyone who is interested in American Literature. Because Poe is considered the “inventor of the modern detective story,” this exhibit promises to be an interesting and unique take on the American master beloved by millions—Edgar Allan Poe. In addition, Dr. Poe, a distant relative of the writer, will give a talk about the exhibit and the life of the American master on Thursday, January 8 at 7 p.m.

Description: Curated by Mark Guilbeau, Contemporary Cast Iron II includes a variety of contemporary approaches to iron art making. Although the featured artwork is predominately comprised of cast iron, the show is not limited to just metals or the casting processes. The nearly fifty artists represented in the show couple metals with materials as diverse as wood, wax, fog, and fish skin in contemporary explorations of this 5000 year-old process. The opening, November 15 from 5 to 8pm, will feature a special iron casting performance. A team of highly skilled artists will use two cupola-style iron furnaces to produce molten iron and cast a work of art live on the Museum grounds. The opening is free for members and $20 for non-members. Contemporary Cast Iron II is generously sponsored by the Lawler Foundry Corporation. Exhibition runs from November 15, 2008 to January 19, 2009.
